Upper Eastside Berlin

Upper Eastside Berlin, unter den Linden. 5.800m² Bottom sealing with silicat gel.

Project Details

Unter den Linden is a boulevard in Berlin's Mitte district of the same name, running between the Forum Fridericianum and Pariser Platz. Unter den Linden is a boulevard in Berlin's Mitte district of the same name, running between the Forum Fridericianum and Pariser Platz. The office, residential and commercial building at the intersection of Friedrichstraße/Unter den Linden completes one of the most important crossroads of historic Berlin. Based on the urban planning principles of critical reconstruction, the building is oriented towards the historic city layout and closes the building lines of the streets Unter den Linden, Friedrichstraße and Mittelstraße.

Project Task

Installation of a soil/soil seal in the area of the excavation pit prior to excavation. The enormous amounts of groundwater make building in Berlin difficult and without proper ground sealing there is a great risk of soil break-up once excavation begins. Standard silicate gels are not permitted, as they are not approved for drinking water and would pollute the groundwater.

Project Solutions

The waterproofing injection was made with Silibond Si 711 a silicat gel with drinking water certificate, PH neutral, no alkalinity and no syneresis. Silibond SI 711 is ecologically harmless and spreads perfectly in fine sand where it forms a waterproof, stable layer. In the Upper East Side project an area of 5.800m² was injected with 1.000 tons of SIliBond Si 711 B.
