Pipe Penetration in a Residential Building, Linz, Austria
Initial Situation
In a private residential building in Linz, water was actively entering the basement through a pipe penetration. The water migrated along the outside of the pipe into the structure and subsequently appeared on the interior side.
Pipe penetrations are among the most common weak points in below-grade structures, as even the smallest leakage path can allow water to travel along the pipe and enter the building.

Project Challenge
Pipe penetrations are exposed to a variety of stresses. Movement between the pipe and the structure, aging of sealing materials, and hydrostatic pressure can all lead to leakage over time.
The challenge was to permanently stop the active water ingress while creating a flexible sealing system capable of accommodating future movement and moisture exposure.
ARCAN Solution
For the permanent sealing of the water-bearing area, HydroBloc Integral 575 was injected. This hydrophilic injection resin penetrated deeply into the water-bearing zones and formed a flexible waterproof seal. Thanks to its adaptive swelling properties, the material can respond to changing conditions and maintain its sealing performance over the long term.
Prior to injection, Komprischaum 130 was installed. The compression foam served as an injection framework and as a defined sealing plane within the pipe penetration area. This created a controlled reaction zone in which HydroBloc Integral 575 could be distributed precisely and form a durable waterproof barrier.
This combination provides a reliable separation between the water pathway and the interior space, significantly enhancing the long-term effectiveness of the injection system.
As a final protective measure, the surface was coated with Cembond 863. This mineral waterproofing slurry forms a durable, watertight protective layer and provides a clean and permanently protected finish to the repair.
Result
The active water ingress was permanently stopped. The pipe penetration was reliably sealed against water intrusion, providing long-term protection for the structure.
The combination of adaptive injection technology, mechanical void sealing, and mineral surface waterproofing created a multi-layered and permanently reliable waterproofing solution.

Pipe penetrations are among the most common causes of water ingress in basements and underground structures. This project demonstrates how different waterproofing technologies can be strategically combined to create a durable solution, even under active water leakage conditions.
In particular, the adaptive swelling properties of HydroBloc Integral 575 ensure that the waterproofing system retains its effectiveness over the long term, even when exposed to future movement or fluctuations in moisture conditions.
